Meredith's pick: SD Zoo!

Today is Day 2 of our Spring Break and today was Meredith's pick!  Her choice, of course, was the San Diego Zoo.  I knew it would either be the Zoo or SeaWorld.  This girl loves animals.

We headed out early to enjoy a full day at the Zoo.  They currently having special presentations and mini shows all throughout the day, all across the entire park.  It's impossible to see them all because many are at the same time and they are spread throughout the park (if you haven't been, it's HUGE).  I printed out the schedule this morning so the kids could peruse today's happenings and decide which ones they really wanted to see.  Of course, they wanted to see everything but we were able to pick out a few to make sure we saw.  Top of the list: the special presentation with the New Guinea Singing Dogs.

Today we covered much of the perimeter of the zoo and a little on the inside.  We spent a good deal of time in the Discovery Outpost.  We saw two shows, got to pet some friendly goats, I got up close and personal with a millipede (!!), we met a monitor lizard and so much more.  From there we checked out the flamingoes and made our way past monkeys, lions and others to see the baby hippo.  He was swimming around the bottom of the pool playing with a ball.  So cute!  After that we trekked back up the main hill inside the Zoo to catch the singing dogs.  They sang!  We said hello to the elephants and polar bears before grabbing some frozen strawberry lemonade and riding the aerial tram back up to the top of the zoo.  It doesn't sound like much, but this is a lot of hilly ground to cover (6+ hours!).

The ZOO was a perfect outing for today.  The weather was still nice and rain is in the forecast for late tonight/early tomorrow.  We're hoping it stays away for most of our Spring Break, but fortunately for us Thomas' pick we'll be doing on Thursday and it is indoors.  Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
