Bela-B

It wouldn't be fair to post a photo of Greta and not one of Bela, even if it was Greta's birthday this week. Bela loves the warm sunshine and laying in it all day long makes her happy. What a life.

[Meredith calls her Bela-B and Belly.]

Greta is 8

Greta is 8 years old this month. Since she was adopted from the Humane Society we don't know exactly how old she is. They estimated she was approximately 6 months old so when we adopted her we gave her March 17th for a birthday. She's really the sweetest girl and, in some ways, even sweeter than Bela -- if you can imagine that. We love you, Greta!

I LOVE this new dog bed.

There is no question we spoil these girls. They were "the kids" before the kids (and still are). We allow them on some of the furniture but always have a dog bed around just in case they might be interested in laying on it instead. They never are. But this bed appears to be something different. Neither cared for it initially, but after the neighbor's dog lounged all over it something changed. Suddenly it's a place they both want to be. And to lay together like in the photo above? It's almost unheard of! They lay together, but they will also lay alone when no one else is even in the room. And they actually seem to prefer it over the chairs they usually camp out on in this room. It's crazy, I tell you.

I love this new dog bed. We may need to have one in every room of our house!

Happy Birthday, Bela!

Our little Bela is 8 years old today! It seems like just yesterday that we drove up to Chehalis, WA "just to look" at some adorable 7.5 week old Vizsla puppies (ha! - I knew we'd be coming home with one). She was the sweetest in her litter and made choosing one easy for us because she chose us. All the other puppies wanted to run around and play but she wanted to be near us -- we just knew she was the one!

she's a lady

Greta claimed this old office chair as her own months ago. Every evening when we are hanging out in the television room, she sits in her chair. Sometimes she's curled up sound asleep in a very uncomfortable-looking position. But then other times she sits just like this with her front paws crossed. She's such a beautiful girl.

rough life?

snow!

We got enough snow this morning to cover the ground and Bela was in heaven. You'd never know it given her shorthair and worship of the sun and all things warm, but Bela loves the snow. She'll run around in it with Greta, catch snowballs in her mouth, snap at falling snowflakes, "dig" at any attempts I make of building a snowman, etc. She's hysterical to watch!

eating crayons

One pregnant mama + one sick daddy + one toddler = ringing in the new year coloring with the girls at home! I thought they simply enjoyed watching Thomas color in his sketch book or maybe it was the smell of the crayons that they liked, but then I caught Greta red-handed. She had a crayon in her mouth and was happily chewing away. Fortunately she only bit off about an inch when I caught her.

If Greta could speak...

"Leave me alone... Why can't I just be a dog...? I don't like to play dress up... You are embarrassing me... No more pictures, please..."
