This afternoon we joined in the Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Old Town San Diego. It's such a fun place to visit and we love to bring out-of-town guests here. In some of the plazas, it feels like you've stepped into Mexico -- very colorful people, beautiful flowers, old village type paving, Mexican music and, of course, the awesome smell of Mexican food. For the Cinco celebration, street vendors and exhibitors took over the streets of Old Town. There was so much to see and do, the kids had a blast! Two interesting things to note: Mexican wrestling demonstrations (weird stuff!) and a car show that was unlike any we'd seen before. Every car had a hydraulic lift kit, was painted beautifully (so sparkly!) and was from the 70s -- the kids loved seeing these cars "hop". And the car owners were not the 60 year old retirees in their Tommy Bahama shirts we usually see sitting beside their woodies. No, these guys looked like Mexican gang members who could have just left the prison yard yesterday. Like I said, being in Old Town feels like you've stepped into Mexico. But it's always fun and today proved to be the same.
